ADD/ADHD Herbal Remedies

ADHD can cause learning difficulties in school. The inability to sit still or to be easily distracted can interfere with the ability to succeed in school. However, ADHD is not a Learning Disability. Some studies indicate that 50% of those with ADHD also have a Learning Disability. One study has placed this number as high as 70%.

A Learning Disability, as defined by the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities is a general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and the use of listening, spelling, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical ability. These disorders are intrinsic to the individual, presumed to be due to central nervous system dysfunction and may occur across the life span.

ADHD Alternative

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says, '... a review of 17 studies using 55 independent measures of academic achievements showed that psycho-stimulants (like Ritalin) have no long-term beneficial effects on scholastic success'. (Methyphenidate Review, August 1995 Office of Diversion Control, Dept. of Justice, DEA)According to the above review, our own U.S. goverment says that drugs are NOT helping our children with long-term scholastic success.

Dr. Michael Papa from http://www.PapasChoice.com believes that the motto of every parent or teacher who is tempted to resort to meds should be, 'Educate don't medicate'.

"I suggest taking a natural approach first before opting for medication", says Dr. Papa. "Talk to your doctor about alternatives to medication. Many parents want to avoid Ritalin or Adderall and other drugs with the possible side effects and I don't blame them. The best approach is the natural approach", Dr. Papa adds.
